2. I was a fan of the Heart Throbs from the first time I heard "Dreamtime" from their "Cleopatra Grip" CD. When I bought "Jubilee Twist," it didn't hit me the way CG did and I put it away for quite a while, disliking it for what I heard as its discordance and perhaps because it wasn't CG/5(11).

3. Oct 13,  · Jubilee Twist is a dream pop album done at the summit of artistry and boasting many elements of shoegaze and fine psychedelic overtones. The soaring female vocals make the songs especially enchanting/5(4).

4. A truly magical group is now gone, but will not be forgotten. Key members: vocalist and textwriter Rose Carlotti, keyboard player/composer Stephen Ward (who at some point have gotten married), and guitar player Alan Borgia. Rose went on to form Angora which became Tom Patrol, and included Rose Carlotti and Steve Beswick from the Heart Throbs.

5. Noko (bass), and Curve's Steve Monti (drums) stepped in to replace them, and stayed with the group for their second album, 's "Jubilee Twist." Their third and final album, "Vertical Smile," was released in The Heart Throbs had somewhat reinvented themselves into a raw, angry band.

6. The first and third albums were named after euphemisms for female genitalia, while the jubilee twist is a martial combat technique for attacking the male genitalia. The Heart Throbs' single "Dreamtime" reached a peak position of number 2 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in , and their single "She's in a Trance" reached number 21 in the same year.

8. Dreamier and more hazy than noisy, Jubilee Twist is more immediately accessible than the somewhat more forbidding Cleopatra Grip, but it unfortunately doesn't stick in the listener's head the way the debut 6/

9. The Heart Throbs were an alternative/dream pop band which formed in Reading, England in The band originally consisted of sisters Rose Carlotti (vocals, guitar) and Rachel DeFreitas (vocals, bass), with Stephen Ward (guitar) and Mark Side (drums).
